WXPN PHILADELPHIA HOSTS ANNUAL MUSICIANS ON CALL BENEFIT CONCERT FEB. 29 WITH DIEGO GARCIA, MUTLU Program benefits hospital patients throughout the Delaware Valley WXPN (88.5) Philadelphia will host its 8th Annual WXPN Musicians On Call Benefit Concert, sponsored by Endo Pharmaceuticals, on Wednesday, February 29 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. The concert will feature performances by Latin-folk singer Diego Garcia and Philadelphia's own Mutlu, and will be hosted by WXPN mid-day host and spokesperson for WXPN Musicians On Call, Helen Leicht. All ticket proceeds benefit WXPN Musicians On Call. Tickets are $28 and can be purchased in advance online.
"This concert is really special because it’s all about celebrating the power of music while raising money for a worthy cause," said Helen. "Music's ability to heal is real and powerful, and the Musicians On Call program makes a positive impact on so many people's lives. For just $28, you can see a night of great live music and help bring joy to hospital patients during their time of need."
WXPN Musicians On Call is a non-profit initiative that brings musicians to local hospitals to perform at patients' bedsides. Since 2004, the program has touched the lives of more than 41,000 patients and their families in healthcare facilities throughout the Philadelphia region. Over the past eight years, 150 volunteer musicians and 41 volunteer guides have regularly participated in the program by providing weekly performances for patients at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, the Philadelphia VA Medical Center and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. In addition to live music, the program also provides local hospitals with CD Pharmacies featuring a CD listening library and CD players for patients' use. In 2011, WXPN introduced the Project Playback program to the Philadelphia VA Medical Center which provided patients with weekly songwriting and recording sessions led by local singer/songwriter Scot Sax.
Anyone who would like to support WXPN Musicians On Call can make a donation online at anytime at WXPN' site. For more information about the WXPN Musicians On Call Benefit Concert, contact WXPN's Kim Winnick via email or at 215.573.3339.
