WYMS/RADIO MILWAUKEE CELEBRATES BLACK ARTISTS IN ROCK MUSIC WITH "BLACK MUSIC MONTH" CONTESTS, GIVEAWAYS
Black Music today is at a crossroads. Commercial radio has largely confined black music to Top 40 Hip Hop and R & B.  Meanwhile, countless black artists, such as Outkast, Santagold, Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D and Kanye West are busy challenging that narrow definition. Join RadioMilwaukee this June as we celebrate Black Music Month. Every Thursday in June we'll play a 3-4 song set featuring the artists that are working outside the mainstream today that are making a big impact on the music we'll hear tomorrow. This week we take a look at  black artists in rock music. Go to radiomilwaukee.org and take the black music month poll. Vote for up to five of your favorite artists. We'll do a countdown of the top 20 vote getters on Friday afternoon, June 27th between 4:30 and 6pm. And one lucky voter will be selected at random to receive a Black Music Month CD stack – one album from each of the top 20 artists. Five other random voters will receive a limited edition 88Nine t-shirt designed by Milwaukee's GS Deisgn. Also, join us on June 20th for Stevie Wonderful, a 90 minute musical tribute celebrating the genius and creativity of Stevie Wonder.
