OPENING: KUSP SANTA CRUZ, OPERATIONS DIRECTOR/ON-AIR HOST KUSP Santa Cruz has an opening for Operations Director/On-Air Host. General Description: This position serves as the regular local host for KUSP's afternoon news magazine programs that include Marketplace, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air. The position is responsible for audio production work, including producing continuity breaks for other programming. Additionally the position maintains KUSP's technical records, develops and reviews programming logs and oversees operation of the technical systems that provide KUSP's content. This is a full-time hourly position with a comprehensive benefits package. Starting wage is $17.25 per hour.
Duties: • Station Operations: - Edit, distribute, correct and reconcile KUSP’s daily programming logs and station technical logs. Maintain log archives and public inspection files according to requirements of FCC and other agencies. - Ensure station facilities and broadcast systems are secure and in good working order. - Act as primary interface with KUSP's Content Depot subscriptions; ensure currency of programs and promos in digital audio library; maintain and provide support when necessary for program streams and program capture systems. - Build, populate and maintain KUSP's program playlists. - Ensure program and signal continuity; monitor broadcast and alerts from content providers and distributors and respond to impairments. - Act as primary on-call staff member for station operational issues and emergency situations.
• On-Air Host: - Deliver on-air breaks during magazine programs. This includes reading underwriting and promotional announcements, compiling and reading weather forecasts and traffic reports, giving away tickets and CDs during phone-in contests, and making transitions between live and recorded programs. - Provide personable radio delivery that is consistent from day to day. - Produce recorded on-air breaks for broadcast at later times under automatic control. - Produce program promos and other radio programming using digital audio workstations and audio storage systems. Coordinate promo use by on-air staff. - Select and repurpose program promos for social media networks on a daily basis. - As needed, assist with editing and final production for broadcast of KUSP news reports. - Respond to listener inquiries by phone during on-air shift. - Ensure proper technical operation of KUSP during on-air shift, including digital audio storage and transmission systems. - Ensure programming during on-air shift complies with FCC regulations and KUSP policies. Coach other on-air staff to maintain compliance throughout the schedule. - Maintain logs and records of station operation during on-air shift and report problems encountered to responsible station personnel. - In collaboration with sponsorship and programming staff, use logs, printed and produced materials to implement KUSP’s underwriting, station communications, public service and promotional strategies. - Participate in on-air fundraising and assist fundraisers through air-room support and management of Content Depot subscriptions and production.
Qualifications: • Three to five years on-air radio experience, including announcing and production. • Familiarity with best practices in public radio hosting, as developed by the Morning Edition Grad School and other industry initiatives. • Familiarity with conventions of public radio and FCC rules. • Familiarity with digital audio production and playback systems, IP-based digital audio systems, Windows networks, database systems, and radio broadcast infrastructure. • Ability to manage a large and diverse set of deadline driven daily tasks. • Ability to makes news judgments independently. • Experience in a work environment with lots of public contact and a diverse workforce.

OPENING: WXPN PHILADELPHIA, PRODUCTION ASSISTANT/PART-TIME ON-AIR HOST WXPN Philadelphia has a current opening for a Production Assistant and Part-Time On-Air Host.
Duties The Production Assistant is the primary producer of various WXPN pre-recorded material for broadcast. Duties include editing content, creating promotional and imaging spots, archiving audio, as well as entering new songs into the RCS system. S/he also serves as main board operator during the station's live remote broadcasts, on-air fund drives, and during the daily children's program, Kids Corner. Additionally, s/he will serve as on-air host during weekends and as fill in host during weekdays as necessary.
Qualifications High school diploma and some specialized production training, with at least 2-3 years of on-air hosting and radio production, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Familiarity with public radio is highly preferred as is an appreciation for eclectic contemporary music programming. The candidate must have experience working with some form of a digital editor, SAW preferred. The ideal candidate will have sound editorial judgment, and the ability to work both independently and take direction.

Job Description: Provide assistance to the Station Manager in the coordination of all on-air materials for broadcast by utilizing talent, technology, and national programming. Oversee the continuous operation of the station, 24 hours per day. Monitor and maintain production equipment. Work with engineer to solve technical problems.
