Liner Notes
Jude Johnstone’s second album, On a Good Day may be West Coast organic, but it is no time capsule. Bluesy, folky, country. Take your pick from a batch of well-crafted modern musical short stories filled with hope and reflection.

She’s got the songwriting credentials. Johnny Cash recorded Johnstone’s "Unchained,” the title track of his Grammy-award winning album. Bonnie Raitt put Johnstone’s “Wounded Heart“ on her Silver Lining record. Stevie Nicks ("Cry Wolf”), Trisha Yearwood and Jennifer Warnes have all covered her songs. This talented pianist now seems hell-bent on joining the ranks of that rarified bunch of quality singer-songwriters. On a Good Day appears to have vaulted her into that league.

Bonnie Raitt returns a favor to her old friend via On a Good Day by lending vocal harmonies, alongside Jackson Browne, Julie Miller and Rodney Crowell. Mary Ramsey (10, 000 Maniacs) plays violin and Johnstone's producer-husband Charles Duncan is featured on guitar.

Radio-friendly highlights include the opening title track, the second song - the more up-tempo “20 Years,” “Long Way Back” (track #10) featuring both Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, and the very Bonnie-like (or is it the other way around?) “Hard Lessons” with Raitt singing backup. Also, try out “Hold On,” with Jackson Browne on backing vocals, and the haunting “Deep Water” featuring Charles Duncan on slide guitar with Rodney Crowell singing backup.

What Is The Press Saying
"Best known as a songwriter (for the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood and the late Johnny Cash), Jude Johnstone steps up to the mike On a Good Day (Bojack), an engaging set of poignant, charismatic originals. Raitt lends her moral/vocal support, as also do Jackson Browne, Rodney Crowell and Julie Miller.
—Knight-Ridder Newspapers (Philadelphia Daily News/San Jose Mercury)
